2. General Information on Data Processing
We process personal data in accordance with the Swiss Federal Act on Data Protection (FADP). Where the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) is applicable, we additionally process personal data on the following legal bases: consent (Art. 6(1)(a) GDPR), performance of a contract (Art. 6(1)(b) GDPR), and legitimate interests (Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR).
Personal data is retained only for as long as necessary for the respective processing purpose or as required by statutory retention periods.
3. Processing Purposes
We process personal data for the following purposes:
- Provision and operation of this website
- Responding to contact enquiries
- Providing and improving the site search
- Ensuring IT security
4. Recipients and International Data Transfers
We share personal data with the following categories of recipients:
- Cloudflare, Inc. (USA) — Hosting and content delivery, as well as storage of contact form submissions and of the search log. Processing may take place in the USA or in the EU. Cloudflare is certified under the Swiss-U.S. Data Privacy Framework and the EU-U.S. Data Privacy Framework. Privacy Policy
- QualityScope GmbH (Switzerland) — analysis of the search log and copy of contact enquiries on its own servers in Switzerland.
There are no other recipients.
When transferring personal data to countries without an adequate level of data protection, we ensure appropriate safeguards (e.g. standard contractual clauses, Data Privacy Framework) to protect your data adequately (Art. 16 et seq. FADP).
5. Data Collection on This Website
Server Log Files
When you visit our website, Cloudflare as the hosting provider automatically collects technical data in server log files transmitted by your browser. This includes: IP address, browser type and version, operating system, referrer URL, pages accessed, date and time of the request. This data is required for the secure operation of the website.
Cookies
This website sets no cookies. The only item stored in your browser is your display preference (light or dark appearance), held in your browser's local storage (localStorage). This entry contains no personal data and is transmitted neither to us nor to any third party.
You can delete this entry at any time in your browser settings.
Contact Form
If you write to us via the contact form, your details — the nature of your enquiry, name, organisation, email address, phone number, message and your statement of how you came across us — are stored on Cloudflare's infrastructure (Workers KV) and deleted there automatically after 90 days. The entries are also copied into a database that QualityScope GmbH operates on its own servers in Switzerland. In that database your personal details and your message are likewise deleted after 90 days; only details without personal reference remain, such as the nature of the enquiry and the time it was sent. No email delivery service is used.
If your enquiry leads to a business relationship, we retain the records arising from it (for example correspondence and offers) for the duration of that relationship and thereafter for as long as statutory retention obligations require. For business correspondence in Switzerland this period is ten years (Art. 958f CO).
Search
The Journal provides a search across our articles. The search term you enter is transmitted to our server (a Cloudflare Pages Function) so that the query can be answered; it forms part of the URL of that request.
Search terms of at least three characters are additionally logged. The log records the search term, the language, the hostname used, the time of the request, and the country and city that Cloudflare derives from the IP address. The IP address itself is not stored.
The log is retained for 30 days on Cloudflare (Workers KV) and deleted automatically thereafter. The entries are also copied into a database operated by QualityScope GmbH on its own servers in Switzerland; this copy is retained beyond the 30 days and serves to analyse what visitors are looking for. The purpose of the logging is to improve our content. No user account is kept, no profile is built, and no cross-site tracking takes place.
